About Akron is for Entrepreneurs is an effort funded by The Fund for Our Economic Future. The Fund is an alliance of funders—foundations, corporations, universities, health care systems, business and civic associations, government entities, and individuals—who pool their resources to advance economic growth in Northeast Ohio. As her title suggests, Heather’s sole focus is the city of Akron, where she is busy connecting entrepreneurs to available resources, providing financial support to existing and emerging efforts to support Akron’s entrepreneurial culture, and promoting entrepreneurship in the city. Heather’s career path included a degree in vocal performance and a number of years spent managing a $400 million global footwear line for Nike before returning to her Northeast Ohio roots to work in nonprofit. Her vision is for Akron’s streets to be alive with people and art, its storefronts full of thriving small businesses, and its tech as locally sourced as its food. When she’s not actively working on this vision, she can be found on the trails of Cuyahoga Valley National Park training for an ultramarathon, wrangling her two precocious children, or drinking a microbrew with her lavishly bearded entrepreneur husband.
